It assesses the main topic of when and how the change from a utopia to a dystopia can happen, analyzing the characteristics that make up a utopia and a dystopia. This analysis will take a look at two utopian/dystopian narratives. In both books, we will see qualities of a dystopia, and be further exposed to two different lives under a " utopian” community. We is going to examine The Giver by simply Lois Lowry and Anthem by Ayn Rand. The books will be evaluated for setting, protagonist, governing group, and how they will expose the themes of erasing personality and individuality, therefore , addressing the question of " as to what extent the actual actions of utopian communities in their try to create a perfect world somewhat create a dystopia? ” Many characters inside the narrative may not see the imperfections of the culture. The protagonist is discussed by his or her ability to recognize the flaw of the contemplating, highlighting the faults in his/her community. This is where we come across the change from a utopia into a dystopia. Whenever we see the flaws of this " perfect' universe, we understand that the world offered to all of us in the book is a great imperfect and vile globe, also known as a dystopia.

The world utopia is based on two contrasting latina roots " ou-topos” meaning no place, or " eu-topos” meaning great place (Ferns 2). Either meaning of utopia can easily apply to the works that are considered utopian literature. Taking a look at the initially definition of thinking about, meaning " no place”, we can analyze that in utopian materials, there is no obvious setting or perhaps timeline of when the tale is happening (Spencer). Utopias seem to exist in past time when the universe was known as perfect by many optimists. Utopian communities are usually isolated from your rest of the world, and everyone in the community is committed to the lifestyle and is controlled by a governing group (Spencer). Furthermore, utopias will be fictional locations that only exist in the minds of their creators. On the other hand, the different definition of contemplating challenges that idea. In such catalogs, as stated just before, the community is controlled with a hierarchy of folks, a federal government to maintain the peace and equality. Moreover to manipulating the aspects of existence in the community, the council tries to control the energy and reactions of the individuals. By removing the idea of uniqueness and identification from the residents, they keep them based upon the system. In such utopian communities, the members are not allowed to select their spouses, professions, or perhaps children, consequently , eliminating the prominent characteristics of identity (Matteo). In a few works of utopian materials, the word " I” can be not included inside the text; instead, it is substituted by the term " we”, when somebody is discussing themselves. Eliminating the choice of figuring out yourself as being a unique person decreases the sense of power given to the people. Under the controlled environment, the utopia suits the definition quite completely. However , as soon as the protagonist knows and requirements...
