Analysis Paper

David Mickey-Pabello

Introduction:

College students' alcohol consumption continues to be an area or worry for colleges for quite some time today. The purpose of my own research is to measure the different motivations behind drinking among undergrad students in the University of Michigan in comparison to Division 1 athletes as well enrolled in Michigan. My spouse and i seek to locate if the stresses of balancing academics and athletics, pressure to perform, and adapting to social transform effect the rate in which Section I college or university athletes ingest alcohol compared to their nonathlete peers? In the end, I hypothesize from experience there to be a significant difference inside the proportion of athletes who consume liquor in comparison to both average university student and learners affiliated in Greek life. Furthermore, I think this big difference in proportion could possibly be majorly caused by the large commitment that comes with being a student-athlete. Research in alcohol make use of among athletes and non-athletes is vital to be able to understand why the abuse of alcohol is on the rise about college campuses all over the nation.

These two principles are related because there can be a significant difference between athlete's alcohol consumption and their nonathlete colleagues that is imperative to analyze. I wish to know if the differences originate from personal motivations or perhaps if surroundings, for example Greek Life, perform the main role between college students alcohol consumption. Furthermore, in the population of college students, researchers have recognized the subpopulation of college sportsmen as being in an increased exposure to possible heavier drinking, binge having, and drinking-related negative implications (Anderson, Albrecht, McKeag, Hough, & McGrew). Based on these findings, I set out to explore what the identifying factors are that could quite possibly make university athletes even more at risk intended for alcohol consumption and binge ingesting than their very own nonathlete colleagues.

Literary works Review:

After inspecting several exploration articles I discovered many relevant studies that enhanced my own knowledge of alcohol consumption among university students, which really benefitted my research. The first analysis I found regarding my matter was an article done by 3 doctors by Southern Illinois University. The journal is usually title, " College Elements that Affect Drinking” and it seeks to examine the aspects of collegiate environments that influence drinking, rather than college student characteristics. Your research method and results:

" Method: A literary works review of content articles primarily published within the last a decade, along with some earlier " landmark" research of collegiate drinking in america, was done to determine institutional factors that influence the consumption of alcohol. Outcomes: Several elements have been proven to relate to drinking: (1) company property factors of campuses, including parti (historically dark institutions, could institutions), occurrence of a Greek system, athletics and 2- or 4-year designation; (2) physical and behavioral property variables of campuses, which include type of house, institution size, location and quantity of hefty episodic drinking; and (3) campus community property factors, including costs and availableness and outlet density. ”

The overall message behind this kind of research article concluded that there is undeniable data that university students all over the nation drink often and many whom drink to harmful levels. Furthermore, the analysis shows there may be consistent data regarding the bad consequences of drinking and that there are also variations relating to enclosure, athletics, and Greek business affiliation.
